| I wanted to take a chance to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
As you all celebrate with your family and friends, take a moment to think about the reason we have this holiday called Christmas. Today is more glorious than presents, great food and time off to spend with those you love. Today marks the anniversary of the beginning of an event that forever changed what the world would perceive as real. Jesus's life set an example for us to follow, his death and resurrection bridged the gap between God and us. Generations would seek to follow him, angels would worship him, nations would doubt him, yet he would, and still does, reign supreme at the right hand of God. In the face of our denial, he loves us unconditionally, and he petitions God on the behalf of those who believe in him. His life was beyond reproach, and his mercy beyond understanding.
Today, take a moment and look at your life and what you have to be thankful for. Then recognize that God is at the center of it all, knowing that Jesus is the only way we can know God now, and the only reason we can look forward to spending eternity in His presence.
Merry Christmas everyone!

| So what's going on with me? Well, besides the general disdain of the haunting possibility that nobody reads this any more, life is moving forward.
Graduation is 7 months away... yet still I am excited and not yet sad about the change, leaving, growing up part.
I checked my DARS report... I'm actually going to graduate if I don't fail anything... 4 classes in the spring and I'll have a BS in Family Studies/Human Services with an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning and a minor in Business Administration. Tell me that doesn't make me sound grown up... or something...
I had a small panic attack the other day when I started thinking about the distant future... I've stopped panicing about whether or not I graduate, having to support myself and do the daily stuff of being an adult... but I got to thinking about going back to work with dad and how up to this point my enthusiasm and pride in our business (and my future there) is based solely on his constant striving towards excellence at what he does, and the fact that he's very good at it. My anticpated success in the business actually piggybacks off the fact that he's good at what he does, and he's going to be around to help me as I build my part of the business. Then I realized, whoa, this guy is almost 60 years old... and someday, he's going to want to retire, and I'm going to OWN this business. I will be on my own, having to do it for myself... the man in charge... the guy calling the shots... the sole person responsible for the continued success of a business and the livelihood of my family (maybe... we're hoping?) and my employees.
WHOA! What a responsibility. The only thing that brought me back in off the ledge, if you will, is this amazing thing called faith. I believe God will prepare me for whatever he sends my way, and that there is nothing that I can't accomplish through him... yet sometimes I start THINKING... which is often a little dangerous... and its these times that I again have to remind myself of His endless power and even greater love for me. Not only did he save me from a breakdown just thinking about this stuff... something little... but he will protect me and guide me so long as I continue to desire Him. Now there's something to WHOA! about.
And now to offer the source of my subject line...
"I should be sleeping 'stead of keeping these late hours I've been keeping I've been pacing and retracing every step and every move And even though I'm feeling so right I'm so happy, still I know I should be sleeping 'stead of dreaming about you..." - Emerson Drive
Just kinda popped in my head... no prompt really... Love to all.

| So its been a while since I felt like I had anything of interest to write about on here... but I just had an amazingly full and fun day and a half, and I got home late to my roomies already in bed or still out for the night, so I'm going to share with all you... this'll probably be a long one... but good times.
So I had to go to Great Bend this weekend to take a door down to my aunt/uncle to put on the house they rent from my parents, and Zach and Leslie have been needing to go down and meet my family, so the tentative plan was to take them along. Sadly, Zach had to work, but Leslie and I went anyways and had a fantastic time!
We drove to GB yesterday afternoon and met my aunt Derinda, Uncle Glenn, cousin Mike and his daughters Kyleene and Alexis for some of the best Mexican food in the state at Delgado's. We hung out at the house with all them for a while and then checked in to our hotel room at the Days Inn where we stayed up and hung out until 3am talking and telling stories and all that fun jazz.
This morning, we were up at 9 to get around and check out of the hotel. I showed Leslie around GB a little bit, then headed over to Larned to go see my grandpa who was in town at my aunt Jacque's house for a little while, and then to go get an amazing greasy meal at the Don-Do...
After downing a half-pound Don-Do burger and basket of fries a piece, we drove out by my grandpa's farm and I showed her around out there a little bit and then headed over to Glenn and Derinda's farm. We hung out for a while with my cousin, Lori, and Mike's wife Laura, who were at the house painting since Mike and Laura are getting ready to move out there.
We played with Alexis and the dog outside for a while until Mike showed up. We shot several boxes of shells for target practice, and finally, Leslie shot a gun. She shot a few rounds through my 20 ga. shotgun, and a clip through Mike's .22 handgun. She learned quick, and made quick work of destroying an empty shell box.
Turns out that duck season opens early out there, and they have had a lot of rain so all the farm ponds are full, so we drove around and Mike and I jumped a few dams trying to find some ducks. On the 3rd pond, I didn't walk out (all I had with me was my cowboy boots - ouch - and a fleece that managed to collect particles and stickers from every plant in every field we walked through) and Mike got up 70-80 ducks, killing 3 but was only able to retrieve 2 since one went down right in the middle of the pond. On the next pond, we both got out and jumped another 20-30 ducks. We ended up taking 4, but one went under and never came back up in the pond. One was a mallard hen that I shot, so I was pretty excited about that.
After that, we went over to Glenn's brother's place where he keeps his beautifully restored 1941 John Deere Model G tractor... Mike and I worked about 45 minutes to get it started, but neither of us had Glenn's touch apparently. Not that we're incompetent, but starting a tractor from this era involves adjusting like 8 different valves and spinning the flywheel at the right speed to get the engine going... we had it going for about 20 seconds, but we were celebrating and forgot to turn the fuel valve from the starting position to the running position and it died... dang. We explored the barn for a while, and then Mike gave Leslie a ride on his uncle's tractor after Mike's uncle spent a good chunk of time trying to get it started... not complicated, just an old tractor in poor shape!
We went back in to town and dinner with the whole family - salad, BBQ meatballs, and potato caserole. It was amazing. We sat around and talked for a couple hours and then drove back.
So yeah, that was it... an awesome but very full day. Thanks for reading... those of you who did.
